Technische Universitat Braunschweig (TUBS)

Organisation profile

Technische Universität (TU) Braunschweig is the oldest institute of technology in Germany. The academic community comprises some 13,500 students and 3,750 university employees, core disciplinesare engineering and natural sciences.

Affiliated to TU Braunschweig, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics focuses on both fundamental and applied research related to aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. With 38 scientific employees and 9 blue-collar workers, the institute offers a broad expertise in fluid mechanical theory, numerical and complex experimental methods and prototype manufacturing.

Regarding experimental research, the institute owns and operates 8 wind-tunnels, which cover a velocity range from low-speed to hypersonic flow. For HAIC, the multi-phase wind tunnel (completion in spring 2013) will be used. Well-established measurement techniques at the institute are stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (PIV), global-sizing velocimetry, hot-wire anemometry, infraredthermography and pressure gauge instrumentation.

Role in the project

With its experience in measurement technology development and application in complex wind tunnel experiments, TUBS will contribute to WP51 - 55 in SP5 (Icing Wind Tunnels/Tests). Beyond, TUBS will be task-leader of WP54.
