TAI Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI)

Organisation profile

Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI) is Turkey’s centre of technology in design, development, modernisation, manufacturing, integration and life cycle support of integrated aerospace systems, from fixed and rotary wing air platforms to UAVs and satellites and ranks among the top hundred global players in aerospace and defence arena. TAI’s business is based on three strategic pillars of Integrated Aircraft, Integrated Helicopter and Aerostructures & Space. TAI has been the centre of technology in design, development, manufacturing, integration of aerospace systems, modernisation and after sales support in Turkey, since its establishment on 15 May 1984.

Acting under the Air Vehicle Engineering Management and Integrated Aircraft Group, the Flight Sciences Department is mainly responsible from the Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics (Stability/Control and Flight Performance), for the programs involved in fixed wing type aircraft.

Flight Sciences Department has conducted numerous in-flight icing analyses, by a 2D/3D in-house icing tool especially for one of the indigenous programs of TAI, HÜRKUŞ – Turkish Primary and Basic Turboprop Trainer which is to be certified by EASA after complying CS.23 items.

Recently TAI has started to use three-dimensional version for the determination of the losses in aerodynamics and flight performance due to icing on the wings and intakes as well as to cover the certification issues. Dealing with a design of turbo-prop trainer aircraft project and aiming the completion of certification items, TAI aims to improve icing simulation capability to include ice accretion by ice-crystals for the future large aircraft and business jet programs.

Role in the project

TAI efforts will be dedicated to SP6 Tools and simulation (participating in WP62, WP66 and WP67).
