Progress and Latest Results
Summaries of the progress performed during the first, second and third year of the project are available from the Publishable Summaries of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Project Periodic Reports.
The progress performed within each Sub-Project is presented below:
SP1 Instrumentation
SP2 High IWC F/T Campaigns
SP3 Spaceborne Observation & Nowcasting of High IWC regions
SP3 aims at developing an operational MET service to raise awareness of pilots in real time about deep convection with emphasis on those clouds that are potentially hazardous. The Eumetsat SAF (Satellite Application Facility) RDT (Rapid Development Thunderstorm) product based on SEVIRI infrared channels already provides information about cloud top altitude with a refresh rate of 15 minutes. The main goal in SP3 is to identify a specific radiative signature of hazardous cloud tops and develop an additional retrieval scheme based on visible and near infrared SEVIRI channels to quantify the threat of the RDT detected cloud tops.
SP4 High IWC Detection and Awareness Technology
SP5 High IWC Test capability Enhancement
SP6 High IWC Tools and Simulation Development
