SP1 Instrumentation – 2nd year progress

During the second year of the project, the following results were generated within SP1:

  • The requirements for first HAIC Flight Test (F/T) aircraft instrumentation were defined. The instrumentation for the Flight Test campaign with the Falcon 20 in Darwin was selected with respect to the instrument specifications to detect microphysical and optical properties of ice and mixed phase clouds. The first Darwin F/T aircraft campaign with the Falcon 20 was performed.
  • The microphysical and optical cloud probes as well as ice and total water instruments were improved for F/T and wind tunnel measurements.
  • Data from cloud probes and liquid/ice water content instruments were compared to select the highest level instrumentation for the AIRBUS F/T campaign in 2016.
  • The requirements for the Ice Wind Tunnel Test (W/T) instrumentation were specified.
  • Instrument tests were performed at different W/T facilities and ice and mixed phase cloud data were compared. Instruments were optimized and further developed.

In short, SP1 activities are progressing according to the plan and are mainly on schedule.
