SP1 Instrumentation – 3rd year progress

During the third year of the project, the following results were generated within SP1:

  • The requirements for HAIC A340 Flight Test (F/T) aircraft instrumentation were defined and the instrumentation for the A340 was selected based on the prerequisites from the aircraft and on instrument specifications.
  • The instrumentation for the Flight Test campaign with the Falcon 20 in Cayenne was selected to detect microphysical and optical properties of ice and mixed phase clouds. SP 1 supported the second F/T aircraft campaign with the Falcon 20 in Cayenne with microphysical cloud probes.
  • The microphysical and optical cloud probes as well as ice and total water instruments were improved for F/T and wind tunnel measurements.
  • The Wind Tunnel Test (W/T) instrumentations were selected based on the prerequisites from the W/T facilities and on instrument specifications.
  • Experiments were performed in W/T facilities and the ice water content and particle size distribution was measured for different W/T conditions.

In short, SP1 activities are progressing according to the plan and are mainly on schedule.
